Review of Silex 2D CadCam Software

Silex 2D CadCam is a practical and well-structured software solution designed for 2D design and CNC code generation in the field of machining. Thanks to its intuitive interface, broad language support, and modular functionality, it serves as a reliable tool for both beginners and advanced users.

At the core of the software is a powerful CAD module that allows users to draw and edit basic geometric shapes such as points, lines, arcs, and circles. Each element can be configured in detail—name, color, line thickness, dash style, and other visual properties. Users can also utilize helpful tools such as rounding, chamfering, mirroring, linear and circular arrays, parallels, or perpendiculars.

One of the key features is the ability to import geometry directly from DXF files. The software detects the geometry elements, assigns names, and notifies the user of any missing information. Imported elements are clearly labeled as “Imported geometry,” making it easy to distinguish them from manually created items.

The CAM section includes a wide range of milling operations, such as face milling, profile milling, slotting, threading, and T-slot milling. Each operation offers extensive configuration: safe heights, target depth, feed speeds, retract levels, toolpaths, milling strategies, lead-in/lead-out distances, and optional tool compensation. Both normal and reverse milling directions are supported, depending on the user's needs.

The tool manager is flexible and user-friendly. Users can define their own tools—drills, taps, end mills, or T-slot cutters—assigning parameters such as tool position, diameter, cutting direction, cooling method, and more.

A major strength of the software lies in its ability to create structured machining procedures. Users can build step-by-step workflows that combine tools and operations into organized units. Each procedure can be named, linked to a zero point, and saved as part of a complete project. These projects can be reopened later with all settings preserved, allowing for smooth revisions and reuse.

Silex also supports CNC code export with syntax highlighting, making it easier to verify and edit the output. Multiple postprocessor formats are available, ensuring compatibility with a variety of CNC machines.

The software’s international usability is enhanced by its wide language support—currently available in Slovak, English, German, French, Polish, Italian, Russian, Czech, and Spanish. Users can switch languages directly from within the interface.

In summary, Silex 2D CadCam is a dependable and flexible tool that covers the entire workflow from 2D design to CNC output. It is particularly well-suited for small workshops, vocational schools, and anyone in need of a user-friendly solution for daily 2D milling tasks.
